“There is nothing inbetween. An empty room, something that is missing, emptiness, a gap or maybe only a short distance – a substitute for something that has never exsisted? At the same time it is also a border, a transition, walking into wideness, an unavailable future and a junction. The beginning is defined, also the ending. What is inbetween?
We, the humans are inbetween. We live between birth and death, past and future. Between other people and mentalities. But also between things that surround us, that we collect, that constrict or besiege us. Considering all those inbetweens instead of the actual thing, means perceiving differently. This is possible in fashion.”
Tanja Kari is a talented young fashion designer who has gratuated only a few months ago from studying fashion design at FH Bielefeld in Germany. Her final collection is called “dazwischen” (inbetween). Tanja uses the context of fashion to demonstrate who she is or how she feels living between two cultures.
“The feeling of being in between something was the main inspiration for my work. I find myself in between two mentalities: I was born as a German in the Soviet Union and now I am a Russian in Germany. But I am neither of these. They are rather connected.”
Tanja also takes part in the Range Rover Fashion Award competition and is now one of the few finalists who have the chance to win a serial production of their collection.
