I came across the work of Erika Hokanson and fell in love with her creative shots. I was lucky enough to talk to her and ask her some questions.
Please introduce yourself
My Name is Erika. I am a photographer residing in Brooklyn.
How did your passion for photography start?
My passion for art and photography started at an early age. I first wanted to be a painter than fell into photography.
When did you start photography?
I started photography when I was around 12 years old. I started to think of it as a career after I graduated from high school.
Which was the first camera you had?
The first camera I used was my father’s Pentax K100. The first camera I owned was a Canon rebel that got stolen.
What are your plans for the future?
I am working on a few projects now and am working to get my work in different American publications.
Who inspires your photography?
I am constantly inspired. Movies are a big source of inspiration as well as art and life in general.
What are the themes you touch through your art?
Themes that tend to reacuacure through my art are my love for vintage cars and vintage photography.
Who is your favorite photographer? Why?
One of my favorite photographers is Richard Avedon. He is someone I admired in my formative years, he was a genius
What is your advice for aspiring photographers?
My advice to aspiring photographers is to shoot as much as you can and just put yourself out there!
