“There is only a thin line between being lonely or free.
Lonely girl and her ghost horse…
… leaving, left, leftover, lonely or just free?
This circus is behind; is it the end or beginning of something new.”
“Leaving Circus” is the upcoming Spring / Summer collection of the Finland based brand Ivana Helsinki. FÆBRIC got a look at all the new pieces at the Copenhagen Fashion Week SS 2010.
About the brand
Ivana Helsinki is an independent art and fashion brand with a main focus on the art phenomenon of their creations. The brand refuses to depend on mainstream trend tones – and the designer Paola Ivana Suhonen wants to do her own thing and proclaim what her personal art process brings out.
The sisters Paola Ivana Suhonen and Pirjo Suhonen are the soul of the brand and have their studio in downtown Helsinki. The original company was founded by their father as a jeans manufactory, before Ivana Helsinki was established in 1998.
Paola’s work is inspired by her roots, the arctic summer nights, the loneliness of infinite landscapes and Finland’s endless winter gloom. To impart the native mood of her clothes, Paola creates a short film with every collection, capturing her feelings about the fashion in her own, melancholic way.
“It is pretty much ok to do cute, straight cotton and woollen dresses for charismatic drummer girls and girl women with beautiful souls. They are the ones who love moonlight fields, pirates, dark forests, crummy motels, champagne state of drunkness, fragile butterflies, unstable relationships, cowboys and guardian angels.”
