Lights off. Silence. Tension. A short intro is played on three giant screens, until a wave of loud music marks the entrance of the models. Their march goes over a big white, puristic catwalk. Puls 09, the annual fashion show of Hamburg’s Academy of Fashion and Design (AMD), made a remarkable impression.
The kickoff was created by students of the first two semesters. Their theme “White Noise” featured skirt creations with entirely individual pieces, protruding volumes, sharp edges and cutouts which bred new layers of fabric. Next on stage: the collection compositions “Sketchbook” and “All that mix” by the third and fourth semester, followed by the manageresses’ realization of Jessie Atkinson designs, entitled “prenom un femme”.
The show’s highlight were 20 final thesis collections like “B-ZIRK” and “Alchmist”. With their impressive creations, the upcoming designers all enthused the audience, but the question was: who convinced the jury of the Fresenius New talent award for the best AMD final thesis? It was Janna Kaiser with her collection “The geeks were right” and Jessie Atkinson with her collection “Awelye”.
Overall, Puls 09 was an inspiring, emotional show, leaving many viewers with goose bumps.
